NFL Insider: Kansas City Chiefs Bracing for Extended Rashee Rice Suspension

The primary concern for the Kansas City Chiefs heading into the remainder of the 2024 offseason isn’t about new acquisitions, but rather the potential suspension duration for second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice following his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas. Insights from various NFL insiders shed light on the Chiefs’ expectations regarding Rice’s suspension.

During an appearance on Steve Smith Sr.’s Agent 89 Breakdown, James Palmer expressed certainty about Rice facing suspension and indicated the seriousness of the punishment anticipated by the Chiefs. Palmer stated that they are bracing for Rice to be suspended for at least half of the upcoming season, which amounts to a minimum of eight games.

This projection contrasts with previous estimates provided by other NFL insiders. Adam Schefter of ESPN, in an article on April 22, suggested that Rice would likely face a multi-game suspension but did not specify a duration. Ian Rapaport of NFL Network suggested that Rice might not be suspended for the 2024 season at all, contingent upon the pace of his legal proceedings.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the issue, emphasizing that the league would await the conclusion of the legal process before determining any additional disciplinary action under their personal conduct policies.
