The Pittsburgh Steelers are ensuring they gather extensive information about one of the top offensive linemen in the upcoming NFL Draft before leaving Mobile, Alabama. At the 2024 Senior Bowl, the team has engaged with Jackson Powers-Johnson, the standout center from Oregon, not just once but twice so far.
According to Powers-Johnson, he disclosed to Steelers Depot that he has had two meetings with the team throughout the practice week. He characterized the first encounter as a casual greeting, while the second, scheduled for Wednesday night, was anticipated to be a more formal discussion.
Powers-Johnson mentioned, “I talked to Coach Tomlin yesterday briefly, just introduced myself and said hello. I had an interview with them, I believe, two days ago, and I think I have another one scheduled for tonight.”
Throughout the week, Steelers’ Nick Martin reported that head coach Mike Tomlin closely observed the offensive and defensive linemen during practice. Tomlin was actively involved, offering insights to players and engaging in discussions with Powers-Johnson during drills.
The Oregon center is projected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, possibly falling around the 20th pick, which the Steelers currently hold. With Mason Cole approaching the final year of his contract, Pittsburgh may consider selecting a first-round lineman for consecutive years, with Powers-Johnson being a potential choice.
