Fresh controversy is beginning to surround Malachi Moreno after a college basketball analyst suggested that the recent buzz linking the Kentucky big man to the first round of the NBA Draft may not be completely genuine. As the draft deadline draws closer, Wildcats fans are now anxiously waiting to see whether Moreno will return to college basketball or officially begin his professional career.

When Moreno first entered the draft process, most projections viewed him as a second-round talent or even a possible undrafted player. While the young center showed flashes of serious potential during the season, his numbers remained modest, averaging under eight points and just over six rebounds per game. Many scouts still believe his best basketball is ahead of him rather than fully developed right now.

However, recent reports suddenly suggested Moreno had started climbing NBA draft boards, with some predictions even placing him in the latter part of the first round. That unexpected rise immediately sparked conversations across college basketball circles, especially among Kentucky supporters hoping he would return for another season.

Speaking recently, college basketball analyst Isaac Trotter said he believes much of the draft hype could simply be strategic positioning from Moreno’s representatives. According to Trotter, the lack of five-on-five workouts raises questions about whether any NBA team has truly guaranteed Moreno a first-round selection. He added that, in his opinion, the talented big man has not yet fully proven himself enough to lock in that kind of promise.

Despite the growing NBA attention, many Kentucky fans would gladly welcome Moreno back for another year, believing more college development could dramatically improve both his draft stock and overall game. With the May 27 deadline fast approaching, the suspense around his future continues growing — and whichever decision he makes could heavily impact Kentucky’s hopes for next season.
