Top remaining recruit targets set to visit Tar Heels on Thursday.

Following Armando Bacot’s departure after exhausting his eligibility, the UNC men’s basketball team has been actively seeking a center in the transfer portal.

Several names were linked with North Carolina, including Danny Wolf, Aaron Bradshaw, Oumar Ballo, and Jonas Aidoo, but they ultimately opted for other programs.

While the Tar Heels do have Jalen Washington and Zayden High as centers on their roster, along with the addition of 4-star recruit James Brown, they aim to reinforce the relatively inexperienced position with some seasoned talent.

Thursday might bring the positive development UNC is hoping for amidst the frenzy of the transfer portal.

Cliff Omoruyi, the Rutgers transfer rumored to be considering North Carolina, is scheduled to visit campus on Thursday, May 2.

Omoruyi has proven himself as a dependable center, boasting double-digit points and over eight rebounds per game across the last three seasons. Notably, he contributed to two NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure at Rutgers, including the team’s first tournament win in 38 years during his freshman season (2020-2021).

With Chapel Hill as Omoruyi’s final visit, head UNC basketball coach Hubert Davis must present a compelling case.

Should the Tar Heels leave a strong impression, they could potentially secure a starting center for the upcoming season before the weekend begins.
