The Wolverines experienced their second running back making an entry into the transfer portal. Michigan, unlike many other schools, hadn’t seen a rapid influx into the transfer portal, maintaining team cohesion leading up to the College Football Playoff.

Initially, the Wolverines had only one scholarship player, CJ Stokes, in the transfer portal, along with walk-on Sam Staruch. Now, another running back, walk-on Leon Franklin, has also opted to enter the transfer portal. However, Franklin has indicated that he’ll remain with Michigan throughout the College Football Playoff.

Franklin has been part of the Wolverines since 2021, participating in 29 games. Across the seasons, he recorded limited stats: eight carries for 33 yards in 2021, four carries for nine yards in 2022, and 11 carries for 33 yards with a touchdown in 2023, also securing a receiving touchdown in 2022.

Michigan boasts depth in its running back lineup and is set to bring in two more running backs in the 2024 cycle. Franklin appears to seek a destination offering more playing time, as he still has two years of eligibility left.
