Auburn football has had a rough few years and losing seasons piled up and fans grew frustrated watching a proud program go through the motions. But something has changed on the Plains this off season and the man at the center of it all is not even from Alabama. He came down from Tampa and he brought a whole new attitude with him.
The new coach came in with a clear plan. He was not interested in slow rebuilds or patient timelines. He wanted to run a fast and aggressive offense that would put points on the board and make life uncomfortable for every defense in the SEC. To make that plan work he needed a quarterback who already knew the system inside and out. He did not have to look far.
The player he brought in has already made big promises to Auburn fans. He sat down with a club legend for a podcast interview and held nothing back. He talked about winning the SEC Championship. He talked about the College Football Playoff and also said he was going to do whatever it takes to win and that he believes in the plan completely. In a league full of big egos and quiet confidence that kind of talk either ages well or ages terribly.
That quarterback is Byrum Brown and he is Auburn’s biggest bet heading into the 2026 season. Brown follows head coach Alex Golesh from South Florida to Auburn and 2026 marks his fourth straight season running Goleshs offense. He posted 3,158 passing yards and 28 touchdowns last season and is described by Golesh as a process driven leader who does not get very often. The numbers back up the confidence and Auburn is counting on every bit of it.
The doubters have not been quiet though. Brown struggled in the spring game completing just seven of 14 passes with two interceptions and even Golesh admitted his quarterback did not see the field well on that day. But one bad spring game does not define a player and Brown has too much experience in this system to be written off that easily. The real test comes when the regular season starts.
Auburn fans have been waiting a long time for a reason to believe again. The Tigers have gone through five straight seven loss seasons and the pressure on this new era is real. If Byrum Brown can bring even half of what he showed at South Florida the Plains are going to be a very different place this autumn. The season cannot come soon enough. All eyes are currently on the star player.
