Missouri’s yearly basketball schedule continues to gain national attention after the Tigers officially added another high profile nonconference matchup. With expectations rising around the program, the latest addition gives fans another opportunity to measure Missouri against one of the college’s basketball most consistent contenders.
The game is expected to draw significant interest from both fan bases. Not only because of the quality of the teams involved but also because of the location. Chicago has long been a strong recruiting and alumni hub for Missouri making the event more than just another early season contest.

The centerpiece of the announcement is Missouri’s matchup against Marquette in the 2026 Legends Classic. The Tigers and Golden Eagles will meet on November 15th at the United Center in Chicago marking their first meeting in 18 years and their first regular-season matchup in more than four decades.
For the head coach Dennis Gates, the game carries added significance and importance. Gates is a Chicago native and has emphasized the importance of bringing Missouri basketball to cities with large alumni populations. The neutral site showdown is expected to create a postseason like atmosphere early in the season while showcasing the program in one of the Midwest’s biggest markets.

Historically, the series has been closely contested. Missouri holds a narrow 5-4 advantage all-time and won the most recent meeting, an 83-79 NCAA Tournament victory in 2009. The upcoming contest renews a rivalry that has been dormant for nearly two decades and gives both programs a valuable résumé-building opportunity.
The matchup also strengthens what is shaping up to be one of Missouri’s toughest nonconference schedules in recent memory. Along with games against Kansas, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Saint Louis and others, the Marquette showdown signals that the Tigers are embracing a challenging path as they pursue another NCAA Tournament run and attempt to elevate the program’s national profile.
