Auburn has received a major boost heading into the offseason, as one of its top contributors has officially confirmed he will return for the upcoming campaign. The decision comes just days after the Tigers celebrated their NIT championship, giving the program added momentum moving forward.
Kevin Overton has announced he will remain with Auburn and will not enter the transfer portal, providing stability for the team as it prepares for the 2026–27 season. His return is seen as a key piece for a roster that is expected to undergo some changes.
The 6-foot-5 guard played a crucial role in Auburn’s postseason success. In the NIT championship game against Tulsa, he delivered one of the defining moments of the season by hitting a clutch three-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime. Auburn then took control in the extra period to secure the title.
Overton’s performance throughout the NIT earned him MVP honors, as he consistently stepped up in big moments. During the five-game tournament run, he was dominant from beyond the arc, shooting an impressive 56 percent while taking a high volume of attempts.
His strong play wasn’t limited to the postseason. Overton finished the season averaging 14.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Over Auburn’s final stretch of games, he elevated his performance even further, averaging 17.7 points while shooting nearly 50 percent from three-point range.
Having previously spent time at Drake and Texas Tech, Overton has now chosen to stay put rather than transfer again. His decision gives Auburn a reliable scorer and experienced leader as the team looks to build on its recent success.
With his return now confirmed, the Tigers gain a major piece as they shift focus toward next season, aiming to carry their NIT momentum into a strong push for the NCAA Tournament.
