Kansas State is continuing to navigate a major roster shake-up following a disappointing season, as another experienced piece has officially decided to move on. The Wildcats are expected to undergo significant changes with multiple players already heading for the exit, leaving the program in full rebuild mode.
The wave of departures comes after a difficult campaign that saw K-State struggle in the Big 12 and ultimately make a coaching change. With a new staff stepping in, the roster turnover has only accelerated, creating both challenges and opportunities heading into next season.
Taj Manning, a 6-foot-7 redshirt junior, has now entered the transfer portal after spending four seasons with the Wildcats. As the team’s longest-tenured player, Manning’s departure marks the end of an era. He originally committed under former head coach Bruce Weber and remained loyal through the transition to Jerome Tang, staying with the program throughout multiple changes.

During his time at Kansas State, Manning was mostly utilized as a bench contributor, but he made notable progress in his final season. He stepped into a starting role and averaged 4.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, showing improvement and consistency despite the team’s struggles. His development was viewed as one of the few bright spots in an otherwise challenging year.
There was some hope that Manning would return for one more season, given his long-standing connection to the program. However, he ultimately chose to explore new opportunities, joining several of his teammates in the transfer portal.
With numerous players departing and only a small number of returners confirmed, Kansas State now faces a significant rebuild. The incoming coaching staff will have multiple scholarships to work with as they reshape the roster and attempt to guide the Wildcats into a new chapter.
