Off-contract playmaker Jake Arthur has reportedly secured his next move, with a deal that will see him not only leave the Newcastle Knights but step away from the NRL altogether.
The son of former Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur made a mid-season switch from Manly to Newcastle to link up with his younger brother Matt. However, his short-term contract expires at the end of this season, and with the Knights already close to finalising their Top 30 roster for 2026, his future at the club appeared limited.
According to All Out Rugby League, Arthur has committed to a two-year contract with Super League side Hull FC, where he is set to partner ex-NRL playmaker Aidan Sezer in the halves. Hull’s squad already features several former NRL players, including Cade Cust, Herman Ese’ese, Jed Cartwright, John Asiata and Liam Knight.
A 2022 NRL Grand Finalist with Parramatta, the 22-year-old has struggled for first-grade opportunities this year, managing just four appearances but impressing in the NSW Cup.
His father Brad recently spoke about his son’s overseas links:
“I’ve given him advice, but he’s 22 now—he doesn’t want to listen to me! He’s at a stage in his career where he’s getting a chance to play, and he’s grateful to Newcastle for that. But over there he might get the opportunity to run his own team. I’ve told him it’s a strong competition.”
