Missouri basketball is dealing with another unexpected twist this offseason, as a key guard has decided to move on despite earlier signs pointing toward a possible return. The sudden change adds more uncertainty to a roster that is already undergoing adjustments following the end of the season.
The Tigers are coming off a campaign that saw them reach the NCAA Tournament, only to be eliminated in the first round. While there were positives to build on, the offseason has quickly turned into a period of transition, with roster decisions beginning to reshape the team’s outlook for next year.
TO Barrett, a 6-foot-4 guard, has officially announced his intention to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the program. His decision comes as a surprise to some, as it follows earlier expectations that he could remain in Columbia and continue developing within the system.
Barrett was a key contributor this past season, appearing in 33 games and earning 14 starts. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game while logging significant minutes. His ability to impact the game on both ends made him a valuable piece in Missouri’s rotation.
Defensively, he proved to be active and disruptive, averaging 1.2 steals per game and often taking on challenging assignments. Offensively, he showed growth in his confidence and playmaking, becoming more comfortable as the season progressed.
His development was especially notable when compared to his freshman season, where he saw limited action and averaged just 1.9 points across 19 games. The leap he made in his sophomore year positioned him as a player with even more upside heading into the future.
A former in-state standout at Link Academy in Branson, Barrett initially committed to Missouri in 2023 as a three-star prospect in the 2024 class. Staying close to home was a key part of his decision at the time, making his departure now a significant shift in his college journey.
With Barrett now entering the transfer portal, Missouri will have to adjust as it continues shaping its roster for the 2026–27 season. His exit opens up opportunities for new additions, but it also leaves a gap in experience and production that the coaching staff will need to address.
As the offseason continues, attention now turns to where Barrett will land next, with programs likely to show strong interest in a guard who has proven he can grow, contribute, and make an impact at the college level.
