The Duke Blue Devils have moved swiftly to reinforce their frontcourt, securing a highly sought-after transfer big man after Patrick Ngongba officially declared for the 2026 NBA Draft.
With Ngongba projected as a first round selection, his departure left a significant void in the middle for Duke. Head coach Jon Scheyer responded aggressively in the transfer portal, targeting one of the most impactful defensive players available.

That player is Somto Cyril, who arrives from the Georgia Bulldogs after an impressive season.
Cyril led the SEC in blocked shots, averaging 2.2 per game in limited minutes, and is widely regarded as one of the top rim protectors in the transfer market. His athleticism and ability to finish above the rim make him an ideal fit for Duke’s system on both ends of the floor.

His presence should help Duke maintain its defensive identity, as the program ranked among the nation’s best in defensive efficiency last season. Cyril’s ability to anchor the paint and disrupt opposing offenses makes him a natural fit in Scheyer’s system.
The addition also comes amid a broader roster transition, with players like Cameron Boozer also expected to move on to the professional level. Duke’s quick response in securing Cyril signals its intent to remain a national contender despite key departures.
With a strong mix of returning talent and impactful additions, the Blue Devils appear well-positioned to stay among college basketball’s elite heading into the 2026–27 season.
