Veesaar was one of the Tar Heels’ most dominant players, averaging 17.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while anchoring the team on both ends of the floor. His departure creates a significant void in the frontcourt, both in production and physical presence.
In response, UNC has identified Andrew McKeever as a primary target to step in as an immediate replacement. The 7-foot-2 center recently entered the transfer portal following a strong campaign with the Saint Mary’s Gaels.
McKeever emerged as one of the most productive rebounders in the country, leading the West Coast Conference while averaging 8.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Known for his size and interior dominance, he offers a similar—if not even more imposing—physical profile compared to Veesaar, making him a logical fit for North Carolina’s system.
Sources around the program indicate that McKeever is viewed as the top available center in the transfer portal, holding a four-star rating and a 91.0 overall grade. His stock has continued to rise, with multiple high-major programs expected to pursue him once the portal officially opens.
The timing is critical for UNC, as the program is also navigating a coaching transition following its separation from Hubert Davis. With a new head coach expected to take over soon, securing a reliable frontcourt anchor will be essential in maintaining competitiveness in the upcoming season.
