Auburn has bolstered its defensive line with the addition of veteran edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack, a former 5-star recruit who brings SEC experience, NFL-caliber talent, and a familiar support system to the Plains.
Womack, who spent time at LSU and Ole Miss, will play his final season of eligibility with the Tigers. At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, he brings the size and athleticism that defensive coordinator DJ Durkin called “NFL-type talent.”
Why Auburn?
The decision came down to two key factors.
First, the connections: Womack reunites with four former St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) teammates already at Auburn—defensive backs Bryce Deas, Blake Woodby, and Wayne Henry among them. Even more significant, his former high school position coach, Wayne Dorsey, is now on Auburn’s staff as assistant outside linebackers coach.
Second, the opportunity: Auburn lost both starting edge rushers from the 2025 season to the NFL draft, creating a clear path to immediate playing time.
What He Brings
In 2025 at Ole Miss, Womack recorded 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Coaches believe his best football is still ahead of him.
“He’s got rare movement skills for a guy his size,” Durkin said. “He’s played in this league, he knows what it takes, and he’s hungry.”
Next Up
Womack will have one year of eligibility remaining and is expected to compete for a starting role when Auburn opens spring practice on March 17.
