Bayer Leverkusen boss Erik ten Hag confessed that tensions are already surfacing within the squad following their surprise 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga opener.
The Dutch coach, who only took charge this summer, watched his revamped side go ahead early through £35m signing Jarell Quansah, only for defensive errors and wasted opportunities to hand Hoffenheim the comeback win.
After the match, Ten Hag admitted that “certain standards were not met” and hinted that lapses in discipline and focus off the pitch had contributed to the defeat. “We must stay united, but there are already matters that need resolving,” he said, fueling speculation of discord in the dressing room.
With a difficult run of games looming, Ten Hag is already under pressure to steady the ship and get Leverkusen’s campaign moving in the right direction.
