While Exequiel Palacios continues to attract interest from Saudi Pro League sides, Bayer Leverkusen are now pushing to sign another Argentine midfielder, Ezequiel Fernández, from Al Qadsiah. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bundesliga club have already reached an agreement on personal terms with the 23-year-old.

Fernández, widely known as Equi, came close to sealing a move to Real Sociedad earlier in the window, but that transfer fell through at the last moment. His decision to join Al Qadsiah earlier this summer surprised many, as he turned down several European offers despite an impressive showing at the Paris Olympics.

The former Boca Juniors talent was a near ever-present for Al Qadsiah last season, missing just two league matches. However, he was not included in the squad for their Super Cup semi-final defeat to Enzo Millot’s Al-Ahli in Hong Kong. Millot, formerly of Stuttgart, marked his debut with a goal to book Al-Ahli a place in the final, where they will take on Kingsley Coman’s Al-Nassr.
